Learn to Swim (LTS) is the foundation of competitive swimming. For this to be a strong foundation, NTS strives to promote LTS as much as possible to ensure that we align our goals with that of Swimming South Africa (SSA): every child a swimmer. LTS is not only aimed at children, but at adults wishing to learn a new life skill as well. We promote the training of LTS instructors as the cornerstone in achieving these goals and present accredited SSA LTS courses regularly. We host approximately 10 courses annually. We hope to create LTS as a viable career and employment choice.
To support our LTS instructors, we also present continuous training and development opportunities in the form of our annual LTS Mini-Conference. We have a physical conference that is generally Gauteng based and an online version where we make this learning opportunity available on a national level. Not only do our instructors engage and learn from one another, we also get industry experts to discuss and impart pertinent knowledge for the success of LTS.
We introduce LTS participants to the aquatic sport environment in a healthy and fun manner. We host an annual LTS Future Stars gala which is a highlight of the LTS calendar. Here our little swimmers can show what they have learnt throughout the season. Events are aimed to be FUN and not competitive. We wish to create a love for swimming as the primary objective with our LTS programmes.
Furthermore, as an education body we facilitate the training of new swimming coaches in the form of learn to swim and level 1 coaching courses. We strive to continually grow the sport of swimming through this training, and by also hosting monthly workshops where coaches may attend to expand their knowledge while earning valuable CPD points.
