About Open Water Swimming

Open Water Swimming has completed its 6th season since active inception in NTS. Open Water adapted its strategy from quantity to quality and to this end; the selection criteria and actual selection standards were set to a higher level.  The intent was to improve our standards and to improve our competitive position at national level which we successfully achieved.

SA National Open Water Swimming Championships - 2016

SA National OW Swimming Championships were held at the Eikenhof Dam, Elgin Grabouw Country Club, on 5 and 6 March 2015.  WPA hosted and presented the event for the 3rd year in succession. Twenty-nine NTS open water swimmers (male and female) were selected to represent NTS at OW Nationals 2016.  Twenty-three swimmers participated at Nationals in the 5km and 3km events. Our juniors improved their positions considerably at nationals this season in both the 5km and 3km events. Both our juniors and seniors (over 31 years) medaled in their age groups this this season and in the absence of some of our top swimmers, we were able to get our best medal haul yet.

Gauteng Open Water Championships - 2016

Three Gauteng Affiliates (NTS, CGA and EGA) planned and presented the 3nd Gauteng Open Water Championships over the weekend 30/31 January 2016. We catered for the 10km; 7.5km; 5km and 3km as elite/championship events and included a number of shorter distance events to attract the parents and younger swimmers.  The event was a qualifier for OW Nationals selection and we doubled the entries from the previous year (500+). Some 45 swimmers from NTS participated in the 3 elite championship events.

NTS Open Water Championships - 2015

NTS held their OW Championships in conjunction with Gauteng Open Water Championships at the end of January 2016. We catered for 10km; 5 km and 3 km events as qualifiers for the SA National Open Water Championships 2016. Medals were presented to all the recipients in the 3 prestige events (men and women) during the event.
